30.04.2020 One of the challenges facing global project teams is access to building material information. In order to make search for better building materials easy, Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) is adding leading global material platforms to its Better Materials Programm. Since April 2020, the Building Material Scouthas also been included as one of four platforms.
Qualified product platforms drastically reduce the time it takes to search for different materials. Building Material Scout is the only recognized platform to document entire construction projects. This means that project teams know at all times which products have been planned, approved and installed.
At the end of the project, the owner receives a complete product documentation. At the same time, product enquiries are forwarded to the manufacturers, who can classify their product in terms of sustainability requirements using a simple evaluation procedure.
In this way, product manufacturers are always kept up to date with regard to all common building certification systems such as LEED, DGNB, BREEAM, WELL, BNB and many more.
“Better materials leads to better buildings and better lives” is how the LEED certification body promotes its initiative. With the launch of LEED v4 in 2013, the requirements in the Materials and Resources credit category and for the Low-Emitting-Materials credit underwent a significant change. The newly introduced concepts such as Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations and Health Product Declarations (HPD) are intended to empower architects and planners to select better materials. This will enable project teams to make informed decisions on product selection and choose better building materials for their projects.
