Energy-efficient new buildings: Project funding by KfW

The KfW promotion “Climate-friendly new build” supports energy-efficient new builds with low-interest loans. There are various funding programs:

1. climate-friendly new construction – residential buildings (KfW 297/298)

• For private individuals, companies & municipalities
• Efficiency house level 40 required
• The requirements for greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the “Quality Seal Sustainable Building Plus” (QNG-PLUS) must be met
• No oil, gas or biomass heating
• Loan amount: up to €100,000 per residential unit

Compliance with the requirements must be confirmed by an energy efficiency expert.

Climate-friendly residential building with the Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings (QNG)

If your project meets the requirements of the “Quality Seal Sustainable Building Plus” (QNG-PLUS) or the “Quality Seal Sustainable Building Premium (QNG-PREMIUM)” and has been awarded a corresponding sustainability certificate, it qualifies for the funding level Climate-friendly residential building with QNG. This increases the loan amount to a maximum of €150,000 per residential unit. Compliance with the funding requirements must be confirmed by an energy efficiency expert and a sustainability consultant

Funding is available for the construction or first-time purchase of climate-friendly residential buildings or owner-occupied apartments in Germany. Further information on KfW funding for climate-friendly new construction – residential buildings can be found on the website of the KfW.

2. climate-friendly new construction – non-residential buildings (KfW 299)

• For companies, municipalities & organizations
• Fulfillment of efficiency building level 40
• The requirements for greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the “Quality Seal Sustainable Building Plus” (QNG-PLUS) must be met
• No fossil heating systems
• The involvement of an energy efficiency expert is required to ensure the planning and implementation of the measures. For the “Climate-friendly non-residential building – with QNG” funding level, a sustainability consultant must also be involved.
• Loan amount: up to € 7.5 million per project

Climate-friendly non-residential building with the Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings (QNG)

If, in addition to the above points, the requirements for the QNG-PLUS or QNG-PREMIUM awards are met and confirmed by a sustainability certificate, your project qualifies for higher funding (up to €10 million per project). For the “Climate-friendly non-residential building – with QNG” funding level, in addition to advice from an energy efficiency expert, a sustainability consultants to be involved. 3. climate-friendly new construction in the low-price segment – non-residential buildings (KfW 596)

• For companies, public institutions and other investors
• Promotion of new construction and first purchase
• Fulfillment of efficiency building level 55
• The requirements for greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the “Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings Premium” (QNG-PREMIUM) must be met
• Funding: maximum loan amount of 1,000 per square meter of net floor area for a total of maximum of € 5 million per project.
