How does LEED certification work?

Before the actual certification process starts, basic steps are taken:

Assignment of a LEED expert (LEED AP)
The LEED AP provides technical support for the project and ensures that the criteria are implemented correctly.
Target definition
Which certificate (Certified, Silver, Gold, Platinum) should be achieved?
Pre-assessment
Which credits are realistically achievable? What minimum requirements (prerequisites) must be taken into account?
Project registration via LEED Online
Registration of the project with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Conclusion of contract
The client concludes contracts with the USGBC and – separately – with the LEED-AP.

The project processing then begins: evidence is collected, criteria evaluated and documents submitted. At the end, the project is reviewed by the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) which awards the final certificate.
