April 17, 2026 With LEED v5, the next version of the internationally recognized building certification is imminent. At the same time, the registration of projects in accordance with LEED v4 / v4.1 is only possible for a limited period of time.
The LEED system continues to evolve. Projects can still be registered under v4. The most important deadlines and information at a glance:
- Registration according to LEED v4 / v4.1 still possible until the end of June 2026
- Time for project completion by 2032
- Extension of up to 18 months possible in certain cases
- An upgrade to LEED v5 is possible at any time
Our recommendation is therefore to register projects now in accordance with LEED v4 / v4.1.
The reason: LEED v4 / v4.1 is established on the market, widely used and offers a high level of planning security for building owners, planners and contractors. LEED v5 introduces new requirements, while at the same time there is still comparatively little practical experience on the market.
By registering early, project participants secure the proven basis of LEED v4 / v4.1 and at the same time retain the option of upgrading to LEED v5 at a later date.
