February 16, 2026 HOINKA GmbH is supporting the BREEAM certification of a new three-storey warehouse building in Neuss. The aim is to achieve the BREEAM Very Good award.
HOINKA GmbH is supporting the BREEAM certification of a new three-storey warehouse building for Shurgard Germany, with the aim of achieving BREEAM Very Good certification. The building was completed in mid-2025, with around 7,800 m² of usable space with around 800 storage rooms of various sizes on a plot of around 11,000 m². The warehouse at the Neuss site is part of Shurgard’s nationwide portfolio of over 45 self-storage locations.
Sustainability & location
- Revitalization of a completely sealed area with low initial ecological value
- Ecological enhancement, e.g. through bird and bat boxes and parking spaces with permeable surfaces (e.g. grass paving)
- High energy efficiency thanks to heat pump and photovoltaic system
- 10 covered bicycle parking spaces and 9 car parking spaces, including 3 with e-charging infrastructure
HOINKA GmbH scope of services: BREEAM new build certification for warehouse buildings
HOINKA GmbH is supporting the certification according to BREEAM DE New Construction 2018, the aim is to achieve the BREEAM Very Good award. Thomas Hoinka is working on this project as a BREEAM auditor, Ramona Schuster is accompanying the certification as a BREEAM AP and sustainability expert, supported by Ahmet Aytekin.
Why BREEAM for logistics & warehouses?
BREEAM is particularly suitable for logistics and warehouse buildings, as many requirements can be realistically fulfilled even for technically simple halls. The system is highly standardized and easily scalable, which makes it ideal for serial and repeatable hall concepts. In addition, aspects such as robustness, durability and low operating costs are rated positively in the life cycle assessment. The BREEAM system enables a high level of certification success for logistics properties at a manageable additional cost.
