30.10.2023 Following the “House of the Year” award, the straw bale house of builder and managing director of HOINKA GmbH Thomas Hoinka has now also been awarded the German Solar Prize.
Hoinka House was awarded the plaque for outstanding structural and technical achievements in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency for its efficient use of solar energy.
The special feature of the Hoinka house? The roof cladding consists of PV panels, which means that the solar cells are fully integrated as a water-bearing layer. This in-roof photovoltaic system produces more electricity over the year than the building consumes in total. This includes all consumption for heating, cooling, lighting, domestic hot water, user electricity for cooking, washing, television and some electromobility. The system has an output of 39 kWpeak and produces over 30,000 kWh/a. Heating is provided by a heat pump, which supplies the ceiling heating from activated clay building boards. The project is a KfW40 Plus efficiency house.
The German Solar Prize is a prestigious award presented annually by the non-profit organization EUROSOLAR. EUROSOLAR is a European association that promotes renewable energies and solar energy in particular in Europe. The award recognizes pioneering achievements and innovative approaches in the field of solar energy and renewable energies and the contribution to sustainable energy generation in Germany.
