BNK\/BNG – Certification<\/h1>\n

BNK and BNG are rating systems for sustainable residential buildings in Germany. As of January 1, 2023, residential buildings of all sizes can be certified: Buildings with 1 to 5 residential units using the Sustainable Small-Scale Residential Construction Rating System (BNK)<\/strong>, and buildings with more than 5 residential units using the Sustainable Buildings Rating System (BNG).<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/div><\/span>The BNK\/BNG certification system evaluates the sustainability of residential buildings based on specific criteria<\/a> set forth in so-called criteria profiles. These criteria cover various areas of quality to ensure a comprehensive assessment of sustainability: sociocultural quality and functionality, economic quality, ecological quality, and process quality. The BNG\/BNK certificate is one of the credentials required to obtain the QNG<\/a> and, consequently, to qualify for funding under the \u201cClimate-Friendly New Construction<\/a> with QNG\u201d program. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A BNK\/BNG auditor<\/a> oversees a project through the certification process from the planning phase to completion. The auditor may also serve as the project\u2019s architect or energy consultant (who has completed additional training to become a BNK\/BNG auditor). Alternatively, the auditor may be brought in as a separate auditor during the planning and construction process. <\/p>\n

How does the BNK\/BNG certification process work?<\/h3>\n

  2. Defining Sustainability Goals and Implementation Strategies<\/li>\n
  3. Registration of the Project with BiRN<\/li>\n
  4. Documentation of the Measures Implemented<\/li>\n
  5. Review of the Documentation by BiRN<\/li>\n
  6. Awarding of the BNK\/BNG Seal of Quality<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The BNG\/BNK certificate is one of the certifications required to obtain the QNG<\/a> and, consequently, to qualify for the \u201cClimate-Friendly New Construction\u201d subsidy<\/a> with the QNG. After a successful conformity assessment by BiRN and the issuance of the BNK\/BNG seal of approval and the QNG, these documents can be submitted to KfW to apply for funding for climate-friendly new construction. <\/span><\/p>\n
