BREEAM Certification

The UK-based certification system BREEAM (British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) was introduced by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).

The BREEAM International System can be used in all countries that do not have their own BREEAM standard. All building types can be certified, e.g.

• Retail buildings (shops, shopping centers, counter shops, e.g. financial, real estate, employment agencies, showrooms, restaurants, cafes, bars, fast food)
• Educational institutions (pre-schools, schools, vocational schools, universities, higher education institutions)
• Living facilities (dormitories, assisted living, children’s homes, women’s shelters, military barracks, …)
• Hotels (hotels, hotels, hostels, pensions and guest houses, juvenile detention centers, training centers with accommodation facilities)
• Community or visitor centers
• City halls or administrative centers
• Conference buildings
• Theater or concert halls
• Sports and leisure facilities (with or without a swimming pool)
• Libraries
• Cinemas

Buildings can achieve the following awards:

• BREEAM Pass (at least 30% of the points)
• BREEAM Good (at least 45% of the points)
• BREEAM Very Good (at least 55% of the points)
• BREEAM Excellent (at least 70% of the points)
• BREEAM Outstanding” (at least 85% of the points)
